Greene County Foundation announces grants

The Greene County Foundation announced two grants to support new local programming.

The Greene County Literacy Coalition received $2,500 to support their Language Learning Community, which promotes literacy and personal growth in our county. Sessions are held at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library Annex Building and at the Linton Public Library. Lessons encourage learners to practice reading, writing, listening and speaking in both the English and Spanish languages. A dynamic learning environment during each Language Learning Community session will allow learners the opportunity to be challenged and embrace working towards accomplishing group and personal goals.

The Greene County Showcase received $2,500 to support cultural and community enrichment opportunities for residents and visitors using a 3,000 square-foot multi-use facility locally known as “The Cabin.”

Their mission is three-fold: To promote dynamic economic and creative pursuits for area artisans and crafters through the establishment of an art crafters cooperative, to develop the Greene County Tourism Center as a point of interest for visitors to explore all our county has to offer and to establish “The Gathering Event Centre” as a niche venue for hosting workshops, workspace, classes and parties. With a revised opening of late Sept. 2021, they are currently introducing artisan members to the art crafters cooperative, developing print materials and media for the Greene County Tourism Center and scheduling events at The Gathering Event Centre.

A public open house is being planned for late September.

Both organizations received the grants at the request of a fund advisor for the One Hundred Acre Woods Fund, a donor-advised fund at the Foundation.

“We are so thankful to this donor who has done so much to help the Bloomfield community anonymously,” said Foundation CEO Sherri Knieriem. “That is true kindness.”

According to Knieriem, donor-advised funds are simple, flexible and tax-efficient ways for donors to give to their favorite charities. Contact the Foundation if you’d like to learn more about this giving option.

The Greene County Foundation exists for charitable individuals to leave a lasting legacy to the community they love.
